So I posted Dead Western Plains' single 'Alta' about a month ago, and if you don't know, the 7" came out last week. Pick up a copy over here. I recently found some pretty killer remixes. Sweeto, right? You know you love it.
Persona La Ave has released a few of his half baked but fully captivating gems this past year, and it's about time he had a debut full length, out now on Triple U Tapes. His experimental jams are nothing short of awesome.
A fresh new track from Pure Esctasy. With an full length on the way, these guys from Austin, TX show no signs of slowing down. Summer may have passed, but this reverb soaked beach masterpiece is something to lose yourself in, and rightfully put you back in that late summa time night crusing mood. Very relavent, keep a lookout, and get on that full length when it comes out!
This three track EP from St. Louis' I Was a Fountain is killer in so many ways. Mostly because of it's prevalent use of electronics and sampling, while still holding onto that sweet acoustic sound I love so much. This is truly a best of both worlds for me. Thank you. Support these guys over at their bandcamp.
Some Floridian awesomeness. 'The Beat Band' is composed entirely of samples, whether that be live instruments or from other influences. Whoa, ch ch checkit.
Fuzz pop excellence from Atlanta. The still incomplete (however the track titles are up) 'The Baby Blue House Sessions' is fantastic so far. Can't wait for more.
I'm a big fan of Pandit. This track leaked earlier this week, and I'm loving it. Soon coming out with a debut ep February 11, 2011, featuring Star Slinger, Foxes in Fiction, and a few others.
Some cool new indie pop. The guitars and electronics remind me of Darwin Deez, and yes, that's a good thing. Written and recorded in 2009, and released recently in late 2010, this is Seastroke's debut ep. Buy it over at their bandcamp!
Another bandcamp gem. This album is all over the place. Indie influences with dabs of hip-hop, this New York based gang has something fresh and original.
Plus the album art is pretty creative.
This track recently leaked via NMI, and I'm hooked. Jonquil's sound is fresh, but very familiar at the same time. I haven't quite put my finger on it, yet. Lizen.
Not much to say about these Brooklyn kids. I would definitely recommend this to anyone into Animal Collective. This EP came out back in April, and I just found it today. Love this track, along with the other three. S.S. Sweet.
If you know me at all, you know I'm very picky when it comes to hip hop. Stranj Child hits about every positive in the genre I look for. With old school samples, and obviously drawing on their 90's era influences (my favorite decade for hip hop), Stranj Child's self titled EP is relevant. Sample it here, or get the whole thing for free here on their bandcamp.
You might have heard Neon Indian's (aka Alan Pamolo) music drifting throught that hazy dripping air this past summer . Probably because that's where it belongs. A forerunner in the now seemingly sad attpemt at chillwave, Neon Indian belongs in your "chillout" playlist. I just stumbled across his remixed album the other week, and it's still hazy and dripping with all of the original goodness that was a party of Psychic Chasms original release. Another genius remix from Chaz Bundick, followed by the original. Czech it.
This is sweet . A virtual jam session that included 8 different artists from 4 continents speaking 3 languages. All to make one song. Pretty cool stuff.
Something different for you. Stephen Farris put out this EP about a month ago. With heavy sampling, and a shitload of mixing, you might be thinking Flying Lotus. Well, it definitely sounds a bit like it, but with a more retro twist. Love the Panda Bear remix as well. Listen up, and download more tracks here.
Black Ops came out, so blame that on the lack of postage.
So I'm currently partying with Shane and Adam of Livid Kids, and man, I gotta say this shit is dope. These lo-fi beach jams from these high school kids is fresh and something to look out for. Shane and Adam have some skills. Live, raw recording is something you rarely get to experience. They're currently working on their second EP on a four track cassette, and expect one of these jams on the mixtape. "Dragons" was recorded live, and improved. They're currently working on getting a tour together, with a show booked in Indiana's Bloomington already, and hopefully with Triptides. The blogging world has taken notices of this powerhouse duo, and you should definitely check out their EP here, free for download. And if you can, make it to their show! More from these guys to come, so check up soon.
Vocals like these don't show up on bandcamp too often. These guys from Brooklyn know what's up... At first listen, the vocals on "Penny" are vaguely reminicient to Robin Pecknold's of Fleet Foxes (along with the entire musical backing). While the falsettos in his voice on "The Hill" resemble that of Ezra Koenig of Vampire Weekend. There are definitely a slew of influences going on here. Keep an eye on these guys, and expect more this coming winter.
Here's some fresh glitch pop I just scooped up today. UK's Young Montana? has perfected the chilled out glitch stuff. I'm usually not a big fan of it, but this, along with Breakfast Mountain (posted earlier) , are definitely two guys you can't pass up.
Currently working on getting the track "Such Beats" by this guy, so expect that sometime soon. For now just check it out HERE.
Washed out, aka Earnest Greene started making his music in his bedroom studio, and now has 2 EPs out and this single, Feel It All Around. His music has been identified with the chillwave movement of 2009 along with Toro Y Moi. As for Toro Y Moi, Chaz is a musical genius. Between his lo fi synth pop and his funk slap bass grooves, I can't believe he does it all by himself.. Listen up. The remix is first, followed by the original.
the self-recorded ramblings of Brooklyn’s Dustin Payseur, Beach Fossils offers hauntingly catchy tunes that blend the energy of an impulsive road trip with the melodious wandering of a lucid dream. Sun drenched riffs, kaleidoscopic rhythms and hazy lyrics saturate Beach Fossils’ first release.
This shoegazer group from Chicago released this LP back in August. Front to back, this is my favorite release by these guys. Dreamend resembles the earlier timbres of Sufjan, dabbled with Explosions In The Sky, and sprinkled with some Matt & Kim (specially “Where You Belong”). Check it!
This folk pop band from Chicago released their debut ep, “Boy”, on Frenchkiss Records recently, and, boy, is it killer… This dreamy lo fi pop gem is one to give a listen too. Starts off slow, and repetative, but by the end you’ll be wanting more. Give it a listen.
This portland-hailing montague fronted by the ridiculously good Luz Elena Mendoza release this EP back in 2009, then followed up with Lupon in 2010 (“November” on the latter), but that doesn’t matter. All I know is they need to do a split with Andrew Bird. NOW.
Alida St.’s lo fi, almost improved, sound is what gets me. The disorder all of a sudden becomes ordered. Genius.
Loving this track. It was released a few weeks ago, but I still can’t get over it. A great, feel good, autumn song to say your last fairwells to summer. It’s supposed to snow friday.
